IVECO Trucks New Zealand breaks ground on new facility

31/10/2017

After an official ground-breaking on October 2nd, IVECO New Zealand is pleased today to announce an important investment into a new retail and service facility to be opened in Wiri in Q3 2018, bringing over 20 new jobs to the area.

IVECO New Zealand confirmed today that it plans to build an impressive new wholesale headquarters, retail showroom and parts & service facility in Wiri, a project that will result in over 20 new skilled, high-wage jobs.

IVECO already employs 20 people at their current location in Wiri, which is bursting at the seams. In addition to this they have numerous employees located in the field nationwide. The new office will easily house over 40 employees immediately, with room for further expansion as the business continues to grow. Recruitment is expected to begin shortly and continue through Q1 2018.

Managing Director IVECO Trucks Australia, Michael Jonson, expanded on IVECO’s commitment to the area: “When we started exploring for a new facility we took the opportunity to review our approach to the market, keeping all options open. The conclusion was straightforward, New Zealand customers are very important to us with IVECO being a successful and growing brand. From there we decided to go all-in and create a flagship retail and service facility.”

Ultimately, General Manager IVECO NZ, Ian Walker said the goal was to continue the momentum on localization. “Our team has worked hard in the last year to really localize our product, from taking more custom units from Australia, to growing the Trakker range specifically for New Zealand, to updating our standard specs across the board to recognize Kiwi requirements. This new facility takes our localization that much further by providing a state-ofthe-art workshop, impressive showroom facilities and corporate offices”.

The company has been working with developers, financing and their parent-company for more than a year. On October 2nd IVECO held a humble ground-breaking ceremony at the new location at 3 Jerry Green Street on the corner of Ross Common Road, Wiri, Auckland. The ground-breaking was attended by Executives from both Italy and Australia, including Stefano Pampalone, CNH Industrial Chief Operating Officer for Asia-Pacific.

The over 11,000 square metre site will be home to corporate offices, a retail showroom, retail offices, a parts warehouse supporting the whole of New Zealand, parts & service offices and perhaps most impressive, 8 state-of-the-art service bays including a Daily-dedicated lane, a truck wash and COF compliant brake testers. In addition to the development of the respectful site itself IVECO New Zealand are also investing in an entirely new IT infrastructure to support the growing dealer network and customer base as well as doubling the size of the parts warehouse and parts stocking in New Zealand. “When trucks are off the road they can only get working as quickly as the delivery of that final part, regardless of the impressive nature of the service workshop. We recognize that and are integrating an increase in parts holding, quicker parts turnaround and parts KPIs into the relocation project” says Walker. Aintree Construction is the developer responsible for the site.

IVECO New Zealand has seen their sales more than double in the last two years and a new facility is necessary in order to handle the growth required to manage the now-sizeable IVECO park in New Zealand. Additionally as Walker clarifies “it just makes sense to have our own workshop. From processing our vehicles coming off the wharf to providing top-notch service to our Auckland customer base, it’s rewarding to know we hold our destiny in our own hands and look forward to what the future holds for IVECO New Zealand, its customers and its dealer partners.” When asked whether IVECO would look at opening other sites around the country Walker stated a clear no. “Auckland is our flagship location and our corporate headquarters, but we rely on our comprehensive dealer network country-wide for the success of our brand and customers. We are thrilled with the dealer expansion we’ve had over the last two years and continue to strengthen the network.”

IVECO expects the new facility to be fully operational in Q3 2018.
