Iveco has this year strengthened its partnership with Triple Eight Race Engineering, home of the championship-winning ‘Red Bull Holden Racing Team’ and ‘TeamVortex 888’.
In 2017 all three Holden race cars, driven by reigning champion Kiwi Shane Van Gisbergen, sixtime champion Jamie Whincup and six-time Bathurst winner, Craig Lowndes, will wear IVECO decals on side mirrors.
Having the huge responsibility of delivering the race cars to the tracks efficiently and on time, will again be the responsibility of top-of-the-line IVECO Stralis AS-L prime movers, including a new unit delivered earlier this year.
As well as boasting great standard features such as the powerful 560 hp Series II Cursor 13 engine, 16-speed Eurotronic AMT transmission and one of the most comfortable cabins available, regular truck driver Warick ‘Wazza’ Beames will also enjoy a number of custom features
Prior to vehicle delivery IVECO installed a rear-mounted cabin air conditioner (for when Wazza is stopped for the night), custom mattress, upgraded audio / multimedia system, in-cabin fire extinguisher, the mandatory for any truckie UHF radio, seat covers and floor mats.
On the outside the Stralis wears the stylish Red Bull livery with subtle chrome trimmings to accentuate the truck’s classy looks, it’s also equipped with additional lighting to keep driver and cargo safer during night time driving.
Since IVECO’s partnership with Triple Eight began in 2015, the IVECO brand has gained great exposure at race tracks in New Zealand and around Australia. IVECO owners and prospective buyers have had opportunities to meet and chat to the race drivers and local school kids got the awesome opportunity to interact with the drivers as well.
Late last year, IVECO New Zealand apprentice dealership technician, Keil Turreia, was also given the opportunity to attend the Pukekohe race round assisting in the Red Bull Racing Team garage.
As well as witnessing first-hand how a professional racing team operates, Keil was provided
with full team apparel and put to work on a range of general tasks including assisting tyre technicians, bodywork preparation, keeping equipment and fridges stocked and helping ensure a quick turnaround of the cars during race sessions.
It’s an experience that Keil will unlikely forget any time soon and he returned to his Dealership, Prestige International, ready to apply the lessons and techniques learned over three days.
